The organising committee of the 2024 Keeling Graduate & Early Career Conference in Ancient Philosophy is delighted to announce that submissions for the conference are now open.
Venue and date:
The 2024 KGC is to take place at the Department of Philosophy, University College London, on 8th–9th March 2024.
About the conference:
The Keeling Graduate Conference will be an open-themed, two-day event on Ancient Greek Philosophy, featuring six talks from graduate students (who will receive a response from a member of the London Ancient Philosophy graduate community) and two keynote lectures. We are delighted to confirm that our keynote speakers will be Professor Alex Long (St Andrews) and Dr Sophia M. Connell (Birkbeck).
Funding, inclusivity, and accessibility:
In order to ensure that our event is as inclusive and accessible as possible, we will not charge a conference fee, and will offer six graduate bursaries to our selected speakers. The graduate bursaries are currently set at up to £100 towards accommodation and sustenance. Moreover, we encourage applicants to state, if they wish to do so, whether they identify as being from a minority background; and whether they may require childcare support on the days of the event. (This financial information will only be used to offer support post-anonymous review/ decision, and will not affect selection.)
Format of the graduate talks:
Graduate sessions will run for approximately 60 minutes. Each selected speaker will be allocated 30 minutes to present their work, which will be followed by a response from one of the members of the London Ancient Philosophy graduate community (10 minutes), and, finally, by an open-floor questions and answers session (20 minutes).
Submission format and deadline:
We invite proposals from graduate students and early career researchers (within three years of completion of their degree) for papers of 3500–4000 words. Please submit papers to [email protected], in .pdf format, by the 15th of January 2024 — note that each paper should also contain an abstract not exceeding 500 words.
Please put ‘Conference Paper Submission’ as the subject of your email and include your name, departmental affiliation, email address, and the title of your paper (as well as the year in which the PhD was awarded, in the case of early career researchers) in the body of the email. Papers should be prepared for blind review – please ensure that your paper is free from any identifying personal details. Contact and further information.
For any inquiries, please contact [email protected], or [email protected]. Future updates will be posted to the Keeling Centre website (https://www.keelingcentreforancientphilosophy.co.uk/graduate-early-career-conference-1).
The 2024 Keeling Graduate & Early Career Conference in Ancient Philosophy has been organised thanks to the generous support of the Keeling Centre for Ancient Philosophy at UCL, and of the Analysis Trust.
