Carlos Perez-Crespo, from the University of Hamburg, will discuss the debate among scholars about the role of natural law in Thomas Hobbes' theory of sovereignty.

The talk emphasizes that natural law is a moral constraint on the power of the sovereign. It is the basis of a chapter to be published by Brill in an edited volume on "Natural law and domestic government".
