Details
We are pleased to announce the first international workshop on the Metaphysics of Chemistry, which is scheduled to take place from 21-22 July 2024 at the Université Catholique de Louvain (Belgium).
The workshop's format is mirrored after the model of the annual SMS conferences. Presentations will be 30 minutes, followed by 10 minutes for a commentator, a 5 minute reply from the speaker, and 15 minutes for Q&A.
We welcome submissions on any topic in the metaphysics of chemistry. But note that the workshop will be organised around the following five themes: (1) chemical kinds, (2) chemical laws, (3) chemical causation, (4) chemical reduction, and (5) chemical realism.
The workshop follows a three-step submission model:
STEP 1: Candidate speakers should submit a 1-page abstract before 15 March. All abstracts must be prepared for anonymous review, and should be submitted electronically via the website of the workshop:
https://metachemistry.sciencesconf.org/user/submissions
Submitted abstracts will be blind-reviewed by the scientific committee. Notifications of acceptance will be delivered by 7 April.
STEP 2: Selected speakers should confirm their participation by 15 April and are expected to submit a short paper of no more than 4,500 words (excluding references and footnotes) by 15 June.
STEP 3: Authors are encouraged to extend their paper after the workshop, based on the presentation and corresponding discussion, and to submit a full paper to be reviewed.
Accepted papers will be published in an edited volume on the metaphysics of chemistry.
