After the successful first edition, Ilia State University (Tbilisi), in cooperation with UCLouvain - Hoover Chair (Louvain-la-Neuve) will hold the second Georgian PhD summer school in ethics and political philosophy. It will take place in the heart of the Greater Caucasus mountains in Stepantsminda (Kazbegi, Georgia), at the residence of Ilia State University Alpine Ecology Institute, from 3 to 8 September.
The second edition of the summer school will focus on the following issues:
- Experimental political philosophy
- Environmental and animal ethics
- What is the point of democratic theory?
- Should ethics do without the concept of harm?

In addition to the traditional lecture and seminar format, we offer each participant an opportunity to have a one-to-one tutorial with our teachers, where they can discuss their research with at least one of the teachers (depending on the demand).
Extra-curricular activities are also planned, to discover the amazing region.
Application
The extended deadline is April 22nd. Applications to the Summer School must be sent via email to [email protected], E-mail title should be “Kazbegi PhD Summer School Application” and you should include an academic CV and a statement of purpose (circa 200 words), outlining your relevant ongoing research and motivation for participating in the summer school.
While priority will be given to PhD students, we welcome submissions from advanced MA students, post-docs, and early career researchers. We will aim for a good mix of international and local students.
The registration fee is 120 euros. It includes coffee breaks and transportation from Tbilisi to the venue and back.
Depending on the availability of funds, we may be able to cover the registration fee of those students who require financial aid. If you require financial aid, please indicate it in your application email.
The participants will be offered meals and accommodation at the venue at competitive prices (the food will be vegetarian and vegan); they can also opt for organizing their meals and stay.
