The Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies

of National University of “Kyiv-Mohyla academy”

invites undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate students to participate

in the 9th interdisciplinary conference

“Philosophy: the New Generation. Experience and its interpretations”

which takes place on March 20–21, 2014 in NaUKMA

The importance of experience of a human shall not be underestimated: it is the source of knowledge, the way of orientation in the world and discerning true from false. Nevertheless, the experience itself remains to be a very complex issue needing a deep philosophical think-over: is it worth relying on? Can we consider it as something universal? Are there different forms of the experience? If so, how do they differ and be beneficial to science and well-being of a human?

During the conference we expectto discuss these and other issues connected to experience and concerning a wide range of issues of humanity studies and science. Specifically, while working in groups and roundtable discussions, we plan to confer such aspects of experience as:

1.      Epistemological. Sensual perception as the source of knowledge pick-up. Knowledge through the experience bias and challenge of inductive reasoning. The experience and issues of scientific methodology. Philosophy and psychology regarding the experience.

2.      Social and anthropological. The experience of the Other and intersubjectivity. The experience and social interaction. The experience of the Alien: rejection, borrowing, exploiting and extending. Social experience: theory and practice.

3.      Aesthetical. The experience and art. The problem of expressing and commonalization. Interpretation of an artwork and prejudices. A piece of art: participation and presence.

4.      The history of philosophy. Historical kinds of the philosophy of experience. Empiricism and rationalism. Nativism and its consequences. Matter of the experience in hermeneutic, phenomenological and existential traditions.

5.      Religion. Specificity of mystical intuition experience. Numinous, sacred and profane experience. A posteriori proofs of God's existence. Transpersonal experience and psychotechnics in traditional and contemporary new religious movements.
