Details

Organizing committee: Jeff Barrett (Irvine), Hans Halvorson (Princeton), Giovanni Valente (Pittsburgh), and Jim Weatherall (Irvine).

Keynote address: Charlotte Werndl (LSE), “Justifying Typicality Measures of Boltzmannian Statistical Mechanics and Dynamical Systems”

Over the past decades, philosophers of physics and others have made important contributions to the mathematical and conceptual foundations of physical theories by critically analyzing how the mathematical structures of such theories inform central philosophical concerns, and in some cases by proving new theorems of high philosophical interest. This conference, the second in a series, aims to bring together physicists, mathematicians, and philosophers of physics working on such technical issues. The event will be held March 20-21, 2014 at the University of California, Irvine. It will immediately precede a workshop on the Foundations of Gauge Theories taking place March 21-23, 2014 (http://www.lps.uci.edu/node/24850).  Speakers for the workshop tentatively include Gordon Belot (Michigan), Katherine Brading (Notre Dame), Richard Healey (Arizona), and Michael Müger (Radboud).
