Details

Personal identity was one of the most discussed philosophical topics during the 1970s and 1990s. However, in the ensuing decades, the focus on the metaphysics of persons has waned despite significant advancements in related areas of analytic metaphysics. This workshop aims to bring personal identity back to the forefront of philosophical debate in light of the progress made in fields such as grounding, modality, essentialism, theories of persistence, mereology, causal powers, and many more.

We invite researchers at any stage of their career to submit a 500-word abstractexcluding references about the possible interactions between personal identity and themes of contemporary metaphysics. Accommodation and meals will be provided (travel not included) for the duration of the conference for the selected accepted abstracts. The conference will be held in L'Aquila, a charming small town in central Italy, easily accessible from Rome.

Abstracts should be prepared for anonymous review and submitted by email (as a .docx or .pdf file) [email protected] September 30th, 2024, 12.00 pm (noon) GMT. Include "SUBMISSION BACK TO PERSONAL IDENTITY" in the subject line of the email submission. The body of the mail should include your name, institutional affiliation, and the paper's title.

Submissions from underrepresented groups in philosophy are especially welcome. Successful applicants will be notified on October 31st.The wokshop will be in-person only.
