The Department of History of Philosophy and Comparative Philosophy (Institute of Philosophy, Maria Curie-Sklodowska University, Poland) and the Journal Culture and Values https://journals.umcs.pl/kw/index invite you to participate in the international scholar conference The Significance of the Philosophy of Enlightenment for European Culture. The conference is scheduled for December 4-5 in Lublin, Maria Curie-Skłodowska University. The conference is planned in in-person format, but online participation is also possible.
This year's conference is the next edition within the cycle of conferences (under the same title) started in Lublin in 2014. Later editions of the conference were held in Toruń, Cracow, again in Lublin, and also in Poznan. The invitation to participate in the conference is addressed to philosophers interested in the problems of the Enlightenment, as well as to specialists from other disciplines, who in their research focus both directly on this period and on its consequences, continuations or critics. The theme of the conference, therefore, is the philosophy of the Enlightenment, its sources and continuations, as well as its impact on culture in the broad sense, both positive and negative. The conference organizers propose that the guiding theme of this year’s conference be idea of progress - in its various versions and evaluations. However, other enlightenment topics will also be welcome.
The deadline for submissions is October 23, 2024. The decision on acceptance will be communicated by November 1, 2024. Please send the title of the speech along with the abstract (400-500 words) to: [email protected] All submitted abstracts will be reviewed. For in-person participants, the conference fee is 450 PLN and includes the cost of coffee breaks, two lunches and a gala dinner. For online participants, participation in the conference is free. Details for payment will be provided at a later date.
