Details

Precollege Philosophy and Public Practice (P4), an interdisciplinary, (fee-free) open-access, and peer-reviewed online journal for philosophical and/or empirical research on precollege philosophy and public philosophy, is accepting submissions. While we accept submissions at any time, the deadline for inclusion in Volume 7, to be published in the spring of 2025, is September 30, 2024. However, we highly encourage submissions at any time and offer timely publication of work through our “online first” publication.

We welcome scholarly submissions in any area of philosophy for and with the public and philosophy for and with young folks, but specific topics of interest include (but are not limited to):

·Relationship between public philosophy, education, and pre-college philosophy

·Advocating for and/or creative approaches to public and/or precollege philosophy programming

·Interdisciplinary approaches to public and/or precollege philosophy

·Dialogue-based education, social justice, and diversity

·Comparative research on approaches to philosophy and dialogue-based education in K-12 classrooms, prisons, retirement communities, or community-based venues and organizations

·Empirical research on impacts / outcomes of philosophy and dialogue-based education and/or outreach programs

Additionally, the P4 editorial team is especially interested in soliciting a cluster of papers in, or at the intersection of the philosophy of education, social epistemology, and the place of public institutions of education in the community.

P4 also welcomes book reviews, primarily for newly-published, stand-alone monographs and volumes on topics relevant to precollege and public philosophy.

P4 also publishes “Notes from the field.” These are submissions from those doing philosophy, construed broadly, with young people and in the public sphere.

Submissions should take the form of exploratory essays focusing on reflections, questions, and challenges relating to the author’s work.
