Abstract: Aristotle offers accounts in Nicomachean Ethics 3–4 of many well-known virtues (courage, temperance, and the like)—but also several virtues he claims have no agreed or appropriate names, the so-called “anonymous virtues.” The talk will focus on what Aristotle thinks is at stake in giving names to the nameless virtues, and why he chooses to let them remain “anonymous.”
