Details

The Graduate Philosophy Students (GPS) of the University of Massachusetts-Amherst are accepting submissions for their Fall 2024 UMass-Amherst Philosophy Grad Conference. The conference is general topic and open to all graduate philosophy students especially those in the region.

The conference will take place at UMass Amherst on December 6-7, 2024. The Keynote will be given by Graham Priest (CUNY) the evening of Friday, December 6th.

The conference will be held in South College on the UMass Amherst campus. The building and all conference spaces are accessible via stairs, ramps, and/or elevators. The conference is currently planned to be held in-person.

Philosophy grad students interested in submitting papers should email their submissions to [email protected]. Papers should be submitted along with a cover page. The criteria for the paper submission and cover page are as follows:

Presentation Format

Each presentation will last 30 minutes. This will be followed by comments for 15 minutes, and a 15 minute Q&A. The first day of the conference will end with a talk by the keynote speaker. There will be a dinner reception following the keynote and a general conference reception the closing evening.

Submission Guidelines

  1. We welcome submissions from all current graduate philosophy students. We are prioritizing submissions from those in the region (within ~250 miles of Amherst, Massachusetts), due to very minimal travel funds to defer costs of presenters.

  2. Papers should be no more than 4000 words, excluding footnotes and bibliography, prepared for a 30 minute presentation. The document containing your submission should be fully anonymized, and sent to [email protected]
  3. Emails should also include a separate cover letter which lists your (i) name, (ii) institution, (iii) paper title, (iv) contact info (email), and (v) a 100-200 word abstract.

The deadline for submitting papers is 11:59pm (EST) on Sunday, November 3rd, 2024.

Notifications of acceptance will be sent in the last two weeks of November.

If you have questions, email Thomas Morrison at [email protected]
