Georgia Philosophical Society

2024 Fall Conference at Augusta University

*Call for Abstracts*

*Abstracts on any philosophical topic are welcome*

Special Topic: Contemporary Issues in Bioethics

The Georgia Philosophical Society invites abstracts for our annual conference. The main conference is Saturday, December 14th, 2024 at Augusta University in Augusta, GA, with an undergraduate session on the afternoon of Friday, December 13th.

Submissions on any philosophical topic are welcome, but we are especially interested in presentations that address contemporary issues in Bioethics. These include metaphysical, ethical, and epistemic issues pertaining to reproductive rights (abortion, IVF, bodily autonomy), gender-affirming care (access, rights, fairness), personhood (for moral consideration or quality of life), disability ethics, biotechnology (e.g. genetic manipulation), assisted death, and informed consent and autonomy.

We invite abstract submissions from professional philosophers (an academic appointment in a philosophy department is not necessary) and graduate students working in philosophy. Membership in the Georgia Philosophical Society is not required.

The deadline for abstracts (300 words-max) is Sunday, November 3rd, 2024. We also invite full-paper submissions (3000 words-max) from undergraduate philosophy students for the Friday session. Please email and include your name, institution (if applicable), current position, presentation title, and an abstract to [email protected]. Use as your subject line: GPS Abstract Submission. Undergraduates, use: GPS Undergraduate Paper Submission

We are excited to have Dr. Melissa Seymour Fahmy (University of Georgia) as our keynote speaker.
