The University of Pennsylvania’s chapter of Minorities and Philosophy (MAP) is pleased to announce our ninth annual conference: MAP-Penn Conference on Displacement(s).

For this conference, we are soliciting anonymized abstracts of 500-750 words on any aspect of displacement. We construe the topic of Displacement(s) broadly. This topic includes philosophical issues across (e.g. migration, refugees) and within borders (e.g. gentrification, segregation). We also welcome abstracts that show connections between international relations, social and political philosophy, and the history of philosophy, among other areas of philosophy.

Please send abstracts to [email protected] with subject line 'MAP Displacement(s) Conference' by January 15, 2025.

The abstracts should be prepared for anonymous review and submitted in .pdf, .docx, or .doc format. The document containing the abstract should contain only a title and the abstract. Your name, email, or any other identifying information should not be included in the document containing the abstract. Please specify your name, institutional role and institution (if any), and title of the abstract in the body of the email.

Presenters will be notified about the status of their submission via email by the end of February.

Conference dates: April 4-5, 2025

Keynote Speakers: Ronald Sundstrom (University of San Francisco) and Serena Parekh (Northeastern University)

The conference will take place on Zoom for a few hours each day with breaks in between talks. We will provide Zoom captioning (but not ASL interpreters unless otherwise requested). Abstracts for each talk will be published on our website, and we will invite our presenters to distribute their slides/handouts one day in advance.

You can find more information on Zoom's accessibility features here:https://explore.zoom.us/en/accessibility/

We aim to make the conference as accessible as possible. Please contact us about any other access needs as soon as possible. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us via [email protected]
