The Prindle Institute for Ethics is thrilled host the third annual Midwest Ethics Symposium: Ethics and Sports, April 8-10, 2025. This year’s symposium will bring together academics, sportspeople, students, and alumni to think about the myriad ethical questions that are related to sports.Any topic related to this broad theme is welcome, but we seek to organize panels and sessions around the following themes:

  • Sports and Identity, e.g., Title IX, sex/gender equity, religion and faith in sports, sports teams and community identity, sportspeople and sports teams/leagues/federations as social/political agents
  • Sports, Money, and Power, e.g., Name, image, and likeness (NIL) in college sports, commercialization of sports, sports gambling, “sportswashing”
  • Sports, Leadership, and Development, e.g, Ethics of coaching, youth sports, sports and academics
  • Arbiters of Fairness, e.g., Refereeing ethics, doping bans, sportsmanship vs. gamesmanship

Interested presenters should submit an extended abstract by January 15, 2025. Limited stipends to offset travel and lodging expenses associated with the Symposium are available for presenters. Please direct any questions or concerns to [email protected]
