Details

We are pleased to invite submissions of abstracts for the inaugural Moral Metaphysics at Maryland (MMaM) Workshop, to be held at the University of Maryland, College Park, on Friday and Saturday, May 30-31, 2025.

We are seeking to showcase new work on the nature of morality and other apparently normative domains (such as rationality, epistemology, social and political, etc.). Work that approaches a normative domain's nature in the spirit of contemporary analytic metaphysics is especially encouraged. Scholars who, inter alia, are unapologetically interested in a normative domain's relationship(s) to essences, gunk, haecceities, difference makers, laws, powers, and other metaphysical exotica will be at home at this workshop.

In addition to the five invited speakers (Alisabeth Ayars, Singa Behrens, Billy Dunaway, Christopher Frugé, Rohan Sud), there will be at least two speakers included on the program and selected on the basis of the quality of submitted abstracts.

If interested, please submit an extended abstract of between 500 and 1,000 words to [email protected] by 11:59 pm Eastern Time on Friday, February 14, 2025. Abstracts should be formatted for blind review, and papers should be suitable for presentation in 30-45 minutes. Email notifications of acceptance will be sent out by Friday, March 7, 2025.

When submitting your abstract, please also indicate whether you would be interested in serving as a commentator-chair in the event that your abstract is not selected for presentation. We will be inviting up to 7 additional participants to serve as commentator-chairs.

The workshop is co-organized by Harjit Bhogal (Maryland), Daniel Fogal (NYU), and Nick Laskowski (Maryland).
