Call for Abstracts: The Diversity Reading List 10th Anniversary Conference

The DRL is celebrating its 10th birthday in 2025 with a two-and-half-day conference!

WHEN: 2-4th July 2025

WHERE: University of Manchester, U.K.

Confirmed Keynotes:

  • Suki Finn (Royal Holloway University of London)

  • Ma Cassandro Ysobel Teodosio (University of the Philippines, Los Baños)

  • Alex Stehn (University of Texas, Rio Grande Valley)

And more to be confirmed!

We invite submissions of two types:

  1. Research talks (1000-word abstract)

We’re especially keen to hear talks (between 30 and 45 minutes without Q&A) on the following themes, broadly construed:

  • Original research on marginalised voices, topics, and traditions in philosophy

  • Metaphilosophical issues related to EDI in philosophy

  • Empirical issues related to EDI in philosophy

You should plan to talk between 30 and 45 minutes without Q&A.

  1. Flash talks or poster proposals for practical projects (500-word description)

This type of presentation is suitable for anyone who runs a project or organisation related to the DRL core themes, e.g. diversification and decolonisation of philosophy (or adjacent discipline), curriculum issues, empirical research on demographics in academic philosophy, philosophy in schools, public philosophy and outreach efforts, etc.

Depending on space, funding, etc. we would be happy to offer hybrid participation or remote promotion for these proposals. If in doubt, get in touch!

HOW TO SUBMIT

Deadline for both types of submissions: Monday 10th March 2025.

Please email your submission to [email protected], specifying in the subject line either ANNIV CONFERENCE RESEARCH TALK, or ANNIV CONFERENCE SHORT PRESENTATION, depending on the type of submission. Please also indicate in your email your affiliation, organisation, or independent status.

Notification of acceptance will be communicated to the authors by email on: Monday 7th April.

Both calls are open to all scholars, with a university affiliation or not. We especially encourage graduate students to submit (please indicate in your email if you are currently a graduate student).

Funding: if invited to the conference we’ll encourage you to use any existing research funds you might have available via your institution, but we’ll be setting aside funding to support travel and accommodation, with priority given to PGRs and early career applicants.
