Details

We welcome submissions for the 2025 issue of Midwest Studies in Philosophy, “Self-Consciousness and Mutual Recognition”. Each volume of Midwest Studies has a general topic area; contributors are given (seriously) wide latitude to contribute within the broad subject area, or even closely related subject matter. This volume’s theme, self-consciousness and mutual recognition, is broadly conceived to include topics within (but not restricted to) philosophy of mind, philosophy of language, social philosophy, and history of philosophy.

The deadline for submission of papers is July 1, 2025. We suggest a length of up to 10,000 words, but this is merely a suggestion. One of our priorities is to produce an accessible work. To that end, please avoid jargon wherever possible, and where that is not feasible, please explain the vocabulary. However, all is negotiable. We also welcome jointly produced papers.

Manuscripts should be prepared in Word format, using The Chicago Manual of Style. A complete submission includes an author abstract of approximately 150 words. Your submission should be prepared for blind review and should be sent to me at [email protected]. We expect final publication within 4 months of acceptance.

Midwest Studies in Philosophy was founded in 1975. Some of the volumes have been republished as self-standing books and many of the papers have been anthologized and/or republished in authors’ own work. We have had the honor of publishing the work of many of the most renowned philosophers of this century and the last. The Philosophy Documentation Center  www.pdcnet.org/msp) has become our publisher and the Center’s forward-looking approach promises many more years of these volumes.
