Details

Scales and measurement are intrinsically linked: we can identify given scales thanks to our measurement tools and measurement tools are applied at given scales. Moreover, scales and measurement are extraordinarily relevant for scientific reasoning, modelling, data collection and data analysis and for more theoretical philosophical issues such as intra-level relations, reductionism and emergence.

In this 2 days workshop, we want to bring together scholars offering different philosophical perspectives on these topics, both in terms of approaches and case-studies considered. The goal of the workshop is to explore questions regarding the nature of measurement and scales, multi-scale modelling, and their application to the physical, biological and medical sciences.
