Details

We are excited to invite submissions of abstracts for presentation at the inaugural Metaphysics in the Blue Ride conference. The conference will be held at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia on Thursday to Saturday June 5th – 7th, 2025.

The conference aims to bring together scholars in metaphysics broadly construed to share recent work in a collaborative and friendly workshop setting. We welcome papers engaging with questions about reality’s structure, fundamentality, the nature of properties/predicates, modality, persistence, vagueness, etc. We also welcome papers at the intersection of metaphysics and other areas of philosophy.

Additionally, there will be a social and fun-filled activities day of hiking and BBQing in the mountains on June 8th following the end of the conference.

We are looking for two or three speakers in addition to those listed above to include on the program. Speakers will be selected on the basis of the quality of submitted abstracts. All speakers will receive a commentator on their work.

If interested, please submit an abstract between 700-1,500 words to [email protected] with subject line “Metaphysics in the Blue Ridge” by 11:59 pm Eastern Time on Tuesday, March 11th, 2025. Abstracts should be formatted for blind review, and papers should be suitable for presentation in 50 minutes. Email notifications of acceptance will be sent by April 11th, 2025.

In your submission, please also state whether you would be interested in serving as a commentator if your abstract is not selected for presentation. We will be inviting up to 7 additional participants to serve as commentators.
