“Holiness and Wisdom”

The upcoming issue of Diakrisis invites scholars, theologians, and philosophers to contribute to the theme “Holiness and Wisdom.” This issue seeks to explore the deep and complex relationship between wisdom as a pursuit of truth and holiness as a way of life, addressing both philosophical and theological traditions that have shaped these concepts throughout history.

Throughout the centuries, philosophy and theology have approached wisdom and holiness as complementary, yet sometimes divergent paths to the ultimate meaning of human existence. In ancient traditions, wisdom was often seen as the foundation of ethical life, while holiness was regarded as participation in the divine. In Christian thought, the ideal of holiness is not opposed to wisdom but deepened by it, inviting reflection on how reason and revelation, contemplation and action, philosophy and theology intersect in the human pursuit of truth.

Key Themes and Questions

We welcome contributions that address, but are not limited to, the following topics:

• The philosophical and theological foundations of wisdom and holiness
• The patristic and medieval synthesis of faith and reason
• Wisdom in relation to theosis (deification) and mystical experience
• The role of holiness in ethical and political philosophy
• Phenomenology of holiness in contemporary thought (Heidegger, Marion, Levinas, etc.)
• Wisdom and holiness in Orthodox spirituality and ascetic traditions
• The significance of holiness in relation to beauty, truth, and sacred art.

Submission Guidelines

• Manuscripts should be original, unpublished work and not under consideration for publication elsewhere.
• We encourage interdisciplinary approaches and welcome contributions from scholars in theology, philosophy, religious studies, and related fields.
• Submissions should clearly delineate the relationship between theological concepts and phenomenological or metaphysical frameworks.
• Manuscripts must adhere to the journal’s formatting and referencing guidelines, available on our website (see https://diakrisis.reviste.ubbcluj.ro, the Submissions page).

Important Dates

• Submission Deadline: October 20, 2025.
• Notification of Acceptance: November 30, 2025.
• Final Manuscript Due: December 10, 2025.
• Publication Date: December 30, 2025.

Submission Process

• Manuscripts should be prepared for blind peer review. Please ensure that all identifying information, including names and affiliations, is removed from the main manuscript to maintain the integrity of the blind review process.
• Submissions should be accompanied by a separate cover letter. This letter should include a short bio of the author(s), detailing their current affiliations, research interests, and relevant publications or achievements. This information helps the editorial board understand the background and expertise of the contributors.
• Manuscripts should be submitted via email to diakrisis.yearbook[at]gmail.com. In your email submission, please clearly indicate whether the paper is for the main theme “Holiness and Wisdom” or for the Varia section.
