While some argue that we have entered a post-modal era in metaphysics, questions of possibility and necessity remain as philosophically urgent as when they were first explored by Ruth Barcan Marcus, Willard Van Orman Quine, Saul Kripke, David Lewis, and others. Far from being a relic of the past, modal metaphysics continues to shape contemporary debates, now in conversation with concepts like grounding, essence, category and fundamentality.
This workshop brings together distinguished professors from leading universities to examine the role of modality in today’s philosophical landscape. They will offer fresh insights into how we should understand and engage with modality as a fundamental philosophical issue, exploring its deep connections with other pressing questions in metaphysics and beyond.
The event will take place both in person and online, with some lectures being delivered virtually.
Registration is required (https://forms.office.com/e/wwCAKitVv8?origin=lprLink). If you wish to attend virtually, you will receive an email with the meeting link upon registration, and after the event, attendees will receive a certificate of attendance.
