Summary:

The aim of this conference is to explore the interrelations between different normative properties and different hypotheses about what ultimately unifies them, with a particular focus on whether these properties can be understood in terms of reasons. The talks and discussions will examine the connections between reasons, value, obligation, justification, ought, fittingness, and other key normative notions central to different philosophical subfields, including ethics, epistemology, and the philosophy of emotions. These discussions will have implications for the reasons first program and aspire to improve our understanding of the nature of the normative.

The conference is organized by Benjamin Kiesewetter and Shane Ward (Department of Philosophy, Bielefeld University) as part of the ERC-funded project REASONS F1RST – The Structure of Normativity.
