Ramones and Philosophy: Edited By: Christopher M. Innes
Abstracts of essays are requested on the 1970s to 1990s American punk rock band the Ramones. Essays will become part of chapters in an edited collection titled Ramones and Philosophy (working title). I am aiming for a publication date of December, 2026.
The Ramones are having their half century anniversary this year. It is said by many that the Ramones made an important contribution to punk rock with their success coming about after playing with the British punk bands in London. This book will contain MLA style essays about the Ramones, their music, and culture. The book will focus on music, culture, social and family expression and any matter that an essay contributor might suggest to write about. Chapters will be organized to discuss the different aspects of the Ramones. The book is aimed primarily at philosophy readers interested in the Ramones and punk rock in general with a cross over to musicology and aesthetics, though it is also expected that a significant minority who are not scholars will read this book.
Chapters must focus on topics that are closely connected to the music, life, work, or cultural impact of the Ramones and especially to the Album: Ramones, and Rocket to Russia and their singles: Blitzkrieg Bop, Rock ‘n’ Roll High School, I Wanna Be Sedated, Sheena is a Punk Rocker, and others you might find relevant. Reference to the band members other work can be discussed if it relates directly to the Ramones. The Ramones’ band members deaths can be discussed. Chapters should not be merely exposition, nor merely expressions of the Ramones’ ideas, but should philosophically and fairly assess particular aspects of the Ramones. The prose style should show research that is academically unpretentious. The essays will have philosophy shine light on an understanding of the Ramones.
