Details
The Department of Philosophy (Faculty of Arts, University of Maribor), its students, and The Slovenian Society for Analytic Philosophy (DAF) are honoured to invite any graduate and PhD students to the tenth annual international Philosophy Students’ Symposium.
The event will take place on the 18th and 19th of November 2025 at the Faculty of Arts in Maribor – this symposium will be held in person, so please do not apply if you can only attend online.
To apply, you must send us an abstract of your work, approximately 500 words long (suitable for a 20–30-minute presentation). Send your abstract and your personal information (name, surname, department, faculty, university, e-mail, degree) in two separate files (preferably .doc or .docx), ready for an anonymous review, by July 31, to the following e-mail: [email protected].
The topic this year is limited to social epistemology in the analytic tradition.
Social epistemology examines the social dimensions of knowledge: how knowledge is produced, transmitted, and evaluated within groups, institutions, and societies. Its relevance is particularly acute today. From the challenges of navigating online information environments to debates over scientific consensus, public trust, and democratic deliberation, understanding the interplay between knowledge and social dynamics is vital. A series of political, environmental, and health crises, paired with the declining trust in scientific expertise and democratic institutions, underscores the urgent need to critically examine how social processes affect belief and knowledge formation.
This conference invites submissions that address foundational and applied issues in social epistemology. Possible topics include, but are not limited to:
· epistemic authority and expertise,
· peer disagreement,
· epistemic injustice and oppression,
· epistemic bubbles and echo chambers,
· epistemic trust,
· group deliberation,
· epistemic democracy,
· social epistemology of science,
· conspiracy theories,
· testimony, and
· group belief.
We would appreciate it if the abstracts sent were in English, as that will be the official working language of the conference.
Conference fee is 10€.
The selection of papers eligible for the presentation will have been made by August 31, when all the accepted applicants will be notified.
If enough participants are interested, they can publish their work in a peer-reviewed student compendium, which will be reviewed by faculty professors.
If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. We look forward to your applications.
Sincerely,
Students of the Department of Philosophy, Faculty of Arts, University of Maribor
