CFP: Philosophical Issues Special Issue on Dimensions of Normative Strength

Submission deadline: January 10, 2026

Topic areas

Details

We invite papers concerning dimensions of normative strength (e.g., justifying vs. requiring weight, reasons vs. prerogatives, etc.).  The existing literature focuses on morality and practical rationality, so we are especially interested in discussions about normative domains where such distinctions are less familiar, e.g., in epistemology, political philosophy, and aesthetics.  Discussions of how such dimensions of normative strength interact (or conflict) with formal methodologies, such as decision theory, are also most welcome. Invited contributions expected from Robert Audi (Notre Dame), Selim Berker (Harvard), Alan Goldman (W&M, Emeritus), Kerah Gordon-Solomon (Queens), Michael Huemer (Colorado), Anne Jeffrey (Baylor), Maggie Little (Georgetown) & Coleen Macnamara (UC-Riverside), Daniel Munoz (UNC-Chapel Hill), Shyam Nair (ASU), Eva Schmidt (TU Dortmund), and Mark Schroeder (Southern Cal).
