We are pleased to announce that registration is now open for the international one-day academic conference: “Reparations and Restitution: Legal Redress, Historical Justice, and Corporate Accountability in the Post-Colonial Present”.
This academic conference seeks to provide an interdisciplinary platform for critical engagement with the urgent and contested questions of reparations and restitution in the contemporary moment. It will examine how the legacies of slavery, colonialism, racial capitalism and environmental exploitation continue to shape global inequalities, and how different communities, institutions, and legal systems are addressing demands for justice, repair, and accountability in Africa and for Africans in diaspora.
By bringing together scholars, practitioners, and activists, the conference aims to foster dialogue across disciplines and geographies, with particular attention to transnational struggles for redress.
Update on the Keynote Speaker
Due to unforeseen circumstances, Deadria Farmer-Paellmann has had to withdraw from the conference. While this is disappointing, we remain deeply grateful for her support.
We are, however, very pleased to announce that Professor Alan Lester of the University of Sussex has kindly agreed to serve as our keynote speaker for the academic conference. Professor Lester is an esteemed historian of empire and colonial legacies, and we are thrilled that he will be joining us to share his insights on questions of historical justice, accountability, and reparations.
