The Chair of the History of Philosophy and Comparative Philosophy (Institute of Philosophy, Maria Curie-Skłodowska University, Poland) and the Journal Culture and Values invite you to participate in the international scholar conference Values and Emotions. The conference is scheduled for November 20–21 in Lublin. The conference will be held exclusively  in the online format (Zoom).

This year’s conference is a part of the cycle of conferences started in Lublin in 2021 under the title Contemporary Challenges and Values. Our themes so far included: Contemporary Challenges and Values (2021), Value Conflicts (2022), and Value Plurality and Relativism (2024).

The invitation to participate in the conference is addressed to philosophers interested in the problems of value theory, as well as to specialists from other disciplines, who in their research focus on various relationships between values and human emotions.

The conference will cover general and specific issues in the epistemology, ontology and metaphysics, anthropology, sociology and other theoretical approaches to values. The following topics are proposed:

1) The role of emotions in the cognition/experience of values;

2) The relationship between rational and emotional sides of axiological consciousness;

3) The emotional aspects of value cognition and the problem of axiological objectivism;

4) The emotional aspects of value cognition and the problem of axiological relativism;

5) Emotions in value cognition and axiological universalism;

6) Historical and contemporary theories of axiological emotionalism;

7) Critics and apologists of emotionalism in axiology;

8) Negative and positive aspects of emotionalism;

9) The legacy and contemporary status of phenomenological axiology;

10) Axiological emotionalism and the theoretical and non-theoretical challenges of the present day.

However, other topics are also welcome.

The deadline for submissions is October 23, 2025. The decision on acceptance will be communicated by November 05, 2025. Please send the title of the paper along with the abstract (400–500 words) to: [email protected] All submitted abstracts will be reviewed and should be prepared for a blind review.  For all participants, participation in the conference is free of charge. The organisers  plan to publish a special issue of Kultura i Wartości (Culture and Values) dedicated to the topic of the conference. Anyone interested in contributing to this publication should submit their complete manuscript by 25 November, 2025.
