The inaugural conference of the Institute of Global Value Inquiry (IGVI) will explore a multitude of perspectives on what constitutes “value inquiry,” and why such inquiry needs to be, or become,“global”. Scholars from across the world, working in a variety of philosophical traditions—African, East- and South Asian, and European—will share insights from their research in value theory. We will discuss the promises and challenges of an international, interculturalresearch network dedicated to studying the formation and contestation of values and norms. Participants will convene on two consecutive days, with each day dedicated to one of the two components of the overarching question of what global value inquiry is and why it is necessary.
The Institute of Global Value Inquiry (IGVI) was founded in 2024 to promote intercultural and comparative research into the nature and variety of values and norms. Material and institutional support is specifically directed to scholars pursuing this research in the Global South. IGVI funds fellowships and research projects, offer travel grants, organizes conferences and workshops, and will soon launch a peer-reviewed, open-access scholarly journal, the Journal of Global Value Inquiry. More information on IGVI can be found herehttps://igvi.org/
