CFP: APA Studies on Feminism and Philosophy Fall 2026 Issue: Feminist Theory and Praxis in the Present
Submission deadline: February 1, 2026
Details
APA Studies on Feminism and Philosophy invites submissions for an issue featuring original work reflecting on those responsibilities and challenges – unique to our current political climate – that arise from acting in alignment with one’s feminist commitments. This issue will showcase the ways in which feminist philosophers are navigating scholarship, teaching, mentoring, and service within or beyond academic institutions. We are particularly interested in work that draws upon or challenges insights from feminist theory to inform (micro)practices for negotiating between one’s own well-being and concern for one’s community.
Given the urgent need for shared critical reflection, we are opening this issue up to both long-form (i.e.., scholarly essays of 4,000-8,000 words) and short-form submissions (i.e., shorter pieces of at least 1,000 words). The latter category includes but is not limited to examples of classroom activities, administrative efforts, and extracurricular advocacy work.
We invite submissions from all areas of philosophy. Topics include but are not limited to the following:
- How one gauges whether they’re ultimately doing the right thing, especially when faced with opposition or hostility
- How one’s life beyond and within academic institutions impact each other
- Considerations of solidarity and ethics relating to research priorities (e.g., triaging work on pressing concerns) and professional events where research is shared (e.g., travel bans)
- Approaching the so-called academic/public writing divide in the current political climate
- Novel theorizing born of the current political climate
- Pedagogical innovations, e.g., community engagement, utilizing AI, structuring critical communities of learning across cultural divides
- Ethical and prudential considerations around pedagogical and curricular decisions
- Mentoring advanced students and junior colleagues
- Feminist advocacy in and/or analysis of university service work
- Free speech and academic freedom
- Fostering and preserving capacity for authenticity in oneself, one’s colleagues, and students
- Autonomy, self-authorship, and decision-making
- Fostering and preserving positive well-being, joy, and motivation
- The importance of rest and sustainability in advocacy work
