Buddhism for Philosophers

The International Society for Buddhist Philosophy (ISBP) is soliciting paper proposals for a panel on “Buddhism for Philosophers” in the group meeting at the Annual Meeting of the American Philosophical Association (APA) Eastern Division in Philadelphia, PA (December 27-30, 2014). Papers that address both methodological and substantive issues in Buddhist philosophy, and their relevance to contemporary debates in philosophy are welcome. 

  Papers may engage such questions as: What are some of the ways in which conceptions of evidence and truth in Buddhism contribute to framing contemporary problems in epistemology about the structure and sources of knowledge, the role of justification, and the limits of knowledge and justification? How do Buddhist conceptions of consciousness and cognition fit with contemporary debates about the mind-body problem, personal identity, and phenomenal consciousness? Which specific issues and debates in ethics and moral psychology stand to benefit the most from an acquaintance with traditional Buddhist conceptions and practices of moral and mental cultivation?   

Papers that address specific cross-cultural differences in the articulation of philosophical intuitions about knowledge and skepticism, appearance and reality, and agency and moral responsibility are also welcome.
