CALL FOR PAPERS

Types of Submissions– The 2026 meeting will feature three different presentation formats, and thus there are three different kinds of submissions (submission instructions are given below):

1.     Papers

2.     Panels

3.     Posters (undergraduates)

1. Papers – Abstracts of approximately 500 words on any philosophical topic are welcome from faculty, graduate students, and unaffiliated scholars. Accepted papers will be allotted 20 minutes for presentation with 10 minutes of Q&A. All abstracts should be anonymized and should include a title along with several keywords or categories.

2. Panels – Prospective panel organizers should submit proposals that include a brief, anonymized overview of the topic, an explanation of the panel’s format, and anonymized abstracts of approximately 300 words for each of the papers to be presented. Each panel must involve a pre-organized set of 3 to 5 papers on a particular theme or topic. Each accepted panel would be allotted 90 minutes in total.

3. Posters – Undergraduates may submit papers of no more than 3,000 words. The paper must be accompanied by an abstract of approximately 500 words. Accepted undergraduate papers must be translated into poster presentations that will be displayed at the conference. Our aim is to showcase research from undergraduates in and around North Carolina. There will be a poster presentation session in which authors will present their work to other conference attendees.

Submissions – All submissions for the 2026 NCPS should be emailed to [email protected] by January 15, 2026. Anonymized abstracts or papers (whichever is required) should be attached to the email. In the body of the email, please indicate your name, institutional affiliation (if any), status (e.g., faculty, graduate student, undergraduate, etc.), and contact information. For panel submissions, include the names and affiliations of all participants.

Prizes – We will award a $200 prize for the best paper submitted by an untenured faculty member, a $150 prize for the best paper submitted by a graduate student, and a $125 prize for the best undergraduate poster. Awarding of prizes is contingent on an adequate number of submissions. Faculty, graduate students, and unaffiliated scholars: if you would like to be considered for a prize, please be prepared to submit a paper of approximately 3,000 words to [email protected] by February 15, 2026 (in addition to submitting an abstract by January 15, 2026). Undergraduates: we will judge the winner of the poster prize at the conference.

Location– The 2026 North Carolina Philosophical Society (NCPS) meeting will be a joint meeting with the South Carolina Society for Philosophy (SCSP), and will be hosted by the SCSP at Furman University in Greenville, SC.
