We are pleased to announce that we are holding a workshop on Climate Ethics on November 17 and 18, 2025 at the University of Heidelberg (Germany), organized by Prof. Susanne Mantel and Dr. Rutger Lazou.

Given that some of the dangerous effects of climate change are already occurring today, the ethical questions that arise from this are becoming increasingly urgent. In this workshop, we aim to bring together scholars working on the moral dimensions of climate change and their implications for our actions and policies.

Confirmed speakers and topics:

- Eva Backhaus (Berlin) - Transformations in the Anthropocene

- Marius Bartmann (Bonn) - Collective Agency and Responsibility in the Climate Crisis

- Hannah Battersby (Leuven) - Climate displacement and community-level relational harms

- Eike Düvel (Karlsruhe) - The not-so-minor difference claim

- Laura García-Portela (Rotterdam) - Climate Justice in Courtrooms: A Normative Inquiry into Reasoning in Climate Litigation

- Rutger Lazou (Heidelberg) - Ethical Information Provision about The Climate Transition. Towards A Specified Principlism

- Lukas Meyer (Graz) - The Ethics of Expectations in Transitions to Climate Neutrality

- Daniel Petz (Gadjah Mada University) - The case for climate revolutions

- Harald Stelzer (Graz) - Moral Corruption and the political economy of delay

- Julian van Vugt (Utrecht) - Beyond humans: a multispecies justice view on mitigation responsibilities

- Ivo Wallimann-Helmer (Fribourg) - Complex Climate Responsibilities for Food Security

- Anna Wienhues (Leuven) - Responding to Climate Change: Theorising Value Change in Conservation Ethics

Venue: Marsilius Kolleg (Im Neuenheimer Feld 130.1, 69120 Heidelberg), Hörsaal (Monday) and Seminar room 1 (Tuesday).
