CFA: WINTER SCHOOL: KANTIAN POLITICAL THOUGHT TODAY - GLOBAL CHALLENGES

Sessions will be led by: Huaping Lu-Adler (Georgetown University), Sorin Baiasu (University of Liverpool), Uri Evan (Hebrew University of Jerusalem), Till Hoeppner (University of Göttingen), Jordan Pascoe (Binghampton University) and Robert Hanna (Independent Scholar).

15th - 17th December (approximately from 9am on the 15th to 12 noon on the 17th), hybrid event, at the University of Liverpool, the School of the Arts Library, 19 Abercromby Square, Liverpool L7 7BD.

The ECPR'S Kantian Standing Group (KSG), in association with the Liverpool-Oxford-St Andrews Kantian (LOSAK) Research Centre at Liverpool invites applications for its hybrid Winter School which explores the relevance of Kantian political thought in addressing pressing global challenges of our time such as climate change, world poverty, human rights abuses, pandemics, AI, migration and hybrid war among others.

Approximately 15-20 postgraduate students and postdoctoral researchers are invited to participate to 3 days of themed sessions and discussions with the additional option of giving a presentation and receiving feedback from expert scholars leading the sessions. A journal special issue is planned with papers presented by delegates and instructors, to be guest co-edited by Tom Bunyard (Liverpool) and Tom Whyman (Liverpool).

Please note: this year, the Winter School will be followed by The Workshop of the Contemporary Kantian Philosophy Project, which is on 'Kant and AI: Metaphysical, Epistemic, Moral and Social Issues', and which starts immediately after the Winter School and runs until the evening of the 18th of December. On the evening of the 18th, the LOSAK Research Centre will be officially launched, followed by the LOSAK Annual Lecture. This will be given by Huaping Lu-Adler (Georgetown University). The LOSAK Annual Conference will be held on the following day, the 19th of December, and will be dedicated to themes in the work of Huaping Lu-Adler.

Call for applications: The Winter School is open to all Masters, Doctoral students, as well as Postdoctoral students/researchers working in the field. The Winter School will be delivered in English. All participants will therefore be expected to have a good command of written and spoken English.

Some participants have already expressed interest but have not yet had a chance to submit applications. We will accept more applications up to the 31st October 2025, midnight BST, and will evaluate and approve them on a rolling basis.
