Location: Roma Tre University, Department of Philosophy, Communication and Performing Arts
Description
The SIFA Società Italiana di Filosofia Analitica and the SISFA Società Italiana di Storia della Filosofia Antica are pleased to invite graduate students (both MA and PhD) and early career scholars (within five years of obtaining the PhD) to submit abstracts for the joint workshop Platonism in Metaphysics and the Philosophy of Mathematics: Ancient and Contemporary, to be held on 4–5 May 2026 in Rome, hosted by the Department of Philosophy, Communication and Performing Arts at Roma Tre University.
The workshop explores the lasting influence and shifting interpretations of Platonism in the history of metaphysics and the philosophy of mathematics, tracing its development from ancient origins to contemporary transformations. We welcome submissions engaging with any aspect of Platonism in metaphysics and philosophy of mathematics broadly construed—historical, systematic, comparative, or critical. Topics may include (but are not limited to):
-
The nature of forms, universals, and abstract entities
-
The relationship between metaphysical realism and Platonism
-
Anti-Platonist or nominalist critiques
-
Platonism’s implications for ontology, logic, or the philosophy of mathematics
