Faith, Trust, and Religious Belief

16 July 2014, St John’s College, Durham University.

This workshop will explore the nature of faith, trust, and belief in a religious life by exploring the idea that to live such a life involves a deep and multi-layered trust – in spiritual leaders, tradition, scripture, a ‘way of life’, the world – rather than simply or exclusively a set of evidentially affirmed propositional attitudes, and a sort of life in which faith is construed as something reflective and serious, rather than as a stance of unreflective cognitive irresponsibility.
