In the face of the dynamic development of protobiology, evolutionary biology, and astrobiology, traditional answers to questions about the origin, evolution, and essence of life require constant deepening and updating. The question of the nature, origin, and dynamics of life's evolution has been one of the most fascinating and yet most challenging problems facing the human intellect. Although the natural sciences provide increasingly precise data on the mechanisms of prebiotic and bioevolutionary processes, philosophy remains an indispensable tool for synthesizing this knowledge and understanding its deeper implications and worldview consequences. In an era of groundbreaking discoveries in prebiotic chemistry, evolutionary biology, and ongoing astrobiology research programs, we are on the threshold of a new era in understanding the phenomenon of life. Is life merely a rare coincidence of physicochemical circumstances, or is it an inevitable consequence of the laws governing the universe? Is the increase in biological complexity a process inherent in the structure of the universe, or merely a statistical accident? What consequences for our worldview would the discovery of extraterrestrial organisms with completely different biochemistry have?
Our goal is to create a space for interdisciplinary debate that combines philosophical (and theological) perspectives with the latest achievements in the natural sciences. We want this meeting to be a catalyst for new ideas that will shed light on the ontological, epistemological, and methodological challenges associated with studying the phenomenon of life: its nature, origin, and evolution.
We hope that our conference will be an interdisciplinary platform for the exchange of ideas between protobiologists, biologists, astrobiologists, philosophers, and theologians, focusing on issues such as:
-
the transition from inanimate to animate matter (abiogenesis) from a natural and philosophical perspective;
-
contemporary redefinitions of the concept of “life”;
-
the philosophy of evolution and; evolutionism: mechanisms and directions;
-
astrobiology and the cosmic perspective of life
-
worldview and religious contexts of the origin and evolution of life.
This conference is a continuation of the previous 14. editions of the conference series entitled Philosophical and scientific components of the worldview, which took place between 1997 and 2011, and a series of publications under the same title, in which eight volumes containing the contents of conference presentations were published.
We would be honored if you would share the results of your research and join the discussion on the philosophy of the origins and evolution of life.
