Shannon Vallor is the Baillie Gifford Chair of the Ethics of Data and AI at the University of Edinburgh and the Director of the Centre for Technomoral Futures of the Edinburgh Futures Institute. She is the author of The AI Mirror: How to Reclaim our Humanity in an Age of Machine Thinking (Oxford, 2024) and Technology and the Virtues: A Philosophical Guide to a Future Worth Wanting (Oxford 2016). The talk will build on her Darwin Lecture (Cambridge) and drawing on Charles Taylor’s A Secular Age.
