The Stoics on Rhetoric

/Plato and Artistotle represent two milestones in the earliest
development of the concept of “philosophical rhetoric”. The paper will
claim that despite the first impression, the concept of rhetoric of the
first Stoics (3. c. BC) is of a similar if not equal importance in this
development but that we need to look at it in the context of this
historical development in order to appreciate it properly. On this
basis, the paper will address some particular features of Stoic dealing
with rhetoric – namely its conceptual coherence and its practicability./
