CFP: United States Environmental Justice Policy: Issues and Directions (Special Issue: Ethics, Policy and Environment)

Submission deadline: February 1, 2027

Details

Ethics, Policy and Environment invites submissions for a Special Issue on United States environmental justice policy, edited by Matthew Kisner ([email protected]) and Dustin Sigsbee ([email protected]).

Overview

We stand at a critical moment in the history of US environmental justice policy. After historic levels of investment in environmental justice policies by the Biden Administration, the Trump administration has rescinded environmental justice funding while taking an antagonistic position toward environmental justice efforts. This special issue aims to take stock of what has happened (accomplishments and setbacks), and to consider the future of environmental justice policy.

Guiding Topics

We are open to a wide range of contributions on this issue, including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Lessons learned from the historic Biden-era environmental justice policies.
  • The impact of recent environmental justice policies, especially on marginalized groups.
  • Ethical issues raised by the current environmental justice landscape.
  • The case for or against particular environmental justice policies.
  • Recent challenges to environmental justice policy.
  • Whether and how the environmental justice movement should adapt to the current political landscape.
  • The relationship between the environmental justice movement and ethical theories of environmental justice.
  • The role of ethicists in formulating and guiding environmental justice policy.

Submission details

  • Submissions should be approximately 8,000 words.
  • The deadline for submission is by February 2027.
  • Please submit your manuscript through the journal’s website for blind review. When prompted, indicate that the submission is for a special issue titled “United States Environmental Justice Policy: Issues and Directions”.
