Call for Papers: Workshop on the Ethics of Belief, Cornell University

November 2014

 Submission deadline: August 31, 2014

The Sage School of Philosophy at Cornell University welcomes paper submissions for a weekend workshop on the ethics of belief, which will take place this 15th and 16th of November. Papers must be suitable for half-hour talks (roughly, 4500 words); submissions from faculty and graduate students will be welcome. Possible paper topics include: what sort of control, if any, do we have over our doxastic attitudes? What sorts of obligations do we have regarding our beliefs? Do we need knowledge or justification (or something else?) in order to treat a belief as a reason for acting? Can practical reasons ever be reasons to believe? This list is indicative, but not exhaustive, of suitable topics for the workshop. Submit papers to Pat Bondy, at [email protected].
