Details

In recent years, the debate on normativity has benefited from work at the intersection of different philosophical disciplines. Most notably, epistemologists have drawn on moral and legal theory to shed light on the grounds of epistemic normativity (Hannon & Woodard 2026), the nature of epistemic blame (Brown 2020, Piovarchy 2021, Boult 2024), epistemic accountability (Kauppinen 2026), and to better understand the distinctiveness of epistemic justification and excuse (Greco 2021). Within aesthetics, several philosophers have recently tapped into similar sources to assess ideas such as aesthetic obligation (Kubala 2020, Whiting 2021), aesthetic blameworthiness (Kubala 2024), and aesthetic motivation (King 2018). In political philosophy - where the idea of a distinctively political normativity is still under assessment (Leader Maynard & Worsnip 2018, Gadomski 2025) - epistemic insights have been brought to bear on crucial normative notions such as legitimacy (Peter 2023), as well as on more applied issues(Edenberg & Hannon 2021).

For this workshop, we invite papers developing this productive cross-pollination to address foundational issues about specific normative domains and clarify the relationship(s) between them. Submissions should include an anonymized abstract of no more than 800 words (references excluded), and a title page with authors’ info and affiliation.

Speakers will be invited as contributors to a special issue, to be proposed to a leading international journal.

Please submit materials to: [email protected]
