The 16th Annual Midwestern Medical Humanities Conference will be on Friday, October 2nd, 2026. The theme of this year’s meeting is Medical Technologies, which will comprise (at least) one track. Note that this track includes, but is not limited to, artificial intelligence in medicine. Other tracks will can be on any topic related to medical humanities.
We invite submissions for presentations (with up to two presenters), and we also encourage panel submissions (with three or more presenters) that bring together participants from diverse backgrounds or academic disciplines. We further encourage proposals that involve community partners, would be of interest to the general public, and/or create opportunities for students.
Submission Guidelines: Submissions should include name, department/institutional affiliation, project title, and an abstract not to exceed 500 words. Proposals should be submitted by August 1, 2026 via Oxford Abstracts. Accepted presentations will be notified by August 15th. Conference registration will be required of all presenters.
Conference Format: As in recent years, the Midwestern Medical Humanities Conference will have a robust online program, hosted through Microsoft Teams. Our abstract submission form additionally asks whether anyone would like to present in-person (in Kalamazoo, Michigan). When submitting abstracts, please indicate your preferred format.
We will explore a dual (online and in-person) program, given sufficient interest. However, it is important for us to retain our online format, to be more inclusive of international presentations, those with limited travel funding, and others.
