CFP: APA Central - Concerned Philosophers for Peace: Ideals and ethics of protest

Concerned Philosophers for Peace (CPP) is pleased to announce a call for abstracts for our group session(s) at the American Philosophical Association’s Central Division Conference in Denver, CO on February 24–27, 2027. We welcome any submission related to the CPP’s mission of analyzing the causes of violence and prospects for peace. We are, however, especially interested in papers that deal with:

Ideals and ethics of protest

We are interested in papers that address any aspect of the ideals and ethics of protests, including critiques of dominant narratives about protests/protesters. Possible topics include but are not limited to:

• The ethics of property damage as a means of protest
• The ethics of encampments
• The relationship between pacifism and nonviolent protest
• What counts as political violence and the ethics of political violence 
• Analysis of cultural narratives about protests/protesters 

Please submit an abstract of no more than 500 words (prepared for blind review) along with a CV to Charles Freiberg at [email protected]. Please write “APA 2027 submission” in the subject line. Submissions are due by September 1, 2026. Proposals from graduate students are welcome.
