The Journal of Gadamer Studies (JGS) is now accepting submissions for its third issue, which will be published in February-March 2027. The title of the special issue is “Hermeneutics, Aesthetics, and Bildung: A Tribute to Nicholas Davey.”
This issue will be dedicated to remembering the life and work of Professor Nicholas Davey (University of Dundee), who passed away on August 2, 2026. The theme and title of the issue mark practices dear to Nicholas’s heart and to his life-long scholarly pursuits. His contributions to Gadamerian philosophical hermeneutics are immeasurable as is his loss to all whose lives he touched, inspired, and brought joy. A beautiful memorial reflection is posted on the University of Dundee’s website.
For this special issue we invite original submissions in English that:
1) focus on Nicholas Davey’s work vis-à-vis the subject areas of Gadamerian hermeneutics, hermeneutical aesthetics, and hermeneutics and Bildung.
2) We will also consider submissions that align with the issue’s theme but that do not directly engage Nicholas’s work.
Additionally, we welcome submissions of brief memories of Nicholas as well as reflections on his contributions to Gadamerian scholarship from colleagues and former students who knew him. These will be featured in the Introduction for the issue, which will be written by Cynthia Nielsen (University of Dallas) and Dominic Smith (University of Dundee). Submissions for consideration in this category should be no more than two paragraphs and can be emailed directly to Cynthia Nielsen ([email protected]).
The JGS is an open access journal hosted by Texas A&M University and is published biannually. Submissions are subject to a double-anonymized peer review process and will be evaluated for their scholarly contribution to the field of Gadamer studies.
