Indigenous Values and Social Change: 2nd Annual IGVI Conference

From September 7th-9th, 2026, the Institute of Global Value Inquiry will hold its second annual conference in Wa, Ghana; the theme is Indigenous Values and Social Change. Over forty leading scholars from various countries and disciplines will gather to discuss how indigenous values and philosophies can endure as a transformative force, despite being undermined by rapid globalization and the afterlife of colonialism. The panels and presentations will address the effects of technological, environmental, political, and other changes on indigenous values and practices in the Global South, and the latter’s capacity to drive social development in a positive direction. Specific attention will focus on how African feminist thought and activism might draw on indigeneity as a means of contesting patriarchal domination. The keynote speakers include Prof. Oyèrónké Oyěwùmí, Prof. Sylvia Bawa, and Prof. David Millar.
