The workshop will focus on conceptualising the boundary between the self and the environment. It is a lens through which we interrogate the relationship between the self and the situated environment, conceiving the self-environment boundary as a dynamic structure of anticipation, constraint, and sedimentation. The investigations will bring forward the continuously negotiated interplay between bodily experience, interpersonal relations, and sociocultural norms. Taking into account (practical and epistemic) normativity will also allow us to explore how embodied agents recognize opportunities for action in their environment and how they constantly reconfigure their behavior. We will ground our investigations in diverse research insights spanning, among others, mental health, virtual reality, and sport.

Our guest speaker is Zuzanna Aleksandra Rucińska (Humboldt Research Fellow, University of Bochum, Germany, you can find out more about her recent work here https://news.rub.de/english/2026-08-20-philosophy-philosophical-questions-about-virtual-reality and here https://www.zuzannarucinska.com/

Young researchers, including master's and doctoral students, will have the opportunity to present their research. The workshop will take place mainly in person.

The programme and more info will available soon.
