Call for abstracts:

Knowing and Being, workshop at CAELO 1 (Lima, Peru, 22-28 February 2027), invites submissions of abstracts for presentations exploring the connections between epistemology and metaphysics in a broad sense. We welcome formal, philosophical, historical, and interdisciplinary contributions addressing questions concerning knowledge, truth, reality, and being, as well as their connections with the theory and philosophy of science, logic, philosophy of language, and related fields. Possible topics include, but are not limited to:

• The relations between epistemology and metaphysics

• Knowledge, truth, and reality

• Metaphysical and epistemological foundations of science

• Epistemology and the theory of science

• Metaphysics and the philosophy of science

• Logic, epistemology, and metaphysics

• Logical consequence and theories of knowledge

• The role of logic in metaphysical inquiry

• Metaphysical assumptions underlying scientific theories

• Epistemic and metaphysical aspects of scientific explanation

• Modal epistemology and metaphysics

• Ontology and the structure of scientific knowledge

• Philosophy of language, meaning, and metaphysical commitment

• Formal approaches to epistemology and metaphysics

• Historical connections between metaphysical and epistemological traditions

• Ancient, medieval, and modern approaches to knowledge and being

• The relationship between first philosophy, logic, and the sciences

• Naturalism, realism, and anti-realism

• The limits and scope of human knowledge concerning reality

• Contemporary approaches to the foundations of epistemology and metaphysics

We particularly welcome contributions that bring together epistemological, metaphysical, logical, and scientific perspectives, and that shed new light on the ways in which questions about what we can know, how we can know it, and what there is are fundamentally interconnected.
