The Shape of Thought: Diagrams in Philosophy, Logic, and Science

The Shape of Thought is a session within CAELO 1 (Lima, 22–28 February 2027) dedicated to the role of diagrams and visual representations in philosophy, logic, and science. This symposium will explore how diagrams can represent, structure, communicate, and facilitate reasoning, from classical and historical traditions to contemporary formal, philosophical, and scientific approaches. It will bring together perspectives from logic, philosophy of mathematics, philosophy of science, epistemology, cognitive science, and related fields, with particular attention to the ways in which visual form can shape thought and reasoning.
