Conference Invitation

The Department of the "History of Philosophical and Scientific Ideas" at the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (IPS-BAS) is pleased to invite you to an international conference on the topic, "Intercultural Communication Today: Virtual Opportunities and Real Challenges." The conference will take place on September 24, 2026 at Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" in Conference Hall 1 and the Aula Magna. It will also be available online through the European platform Alfaview. It is part of the department's series of seminars, lectures, and conferences titled "Virtuality and Reality: Phenomenological and Post-Phenomenological Interpretations." The co-organizers of this academic event are the Bulgarian Philosophical Society, the Bulgarian Phenomenology Association, the Austrian Embassy in Sofia, the Institute for Axiological Research in Vienna, and EIFI, the International School of Intercultural Philosophy in Barcelona.

The conference will focus on key themes of intercultural exchange and communication in the contemporary world, which is marked by ever-increasing technological possibilities, as well as social and environmental risks that threaten not only local communities, but humanity as a whole. Methods of phenomenological description and the hermeneutics of intercultural and social conflicts play a central role in studying these new developments and emerging challenges.

Contributions will be featured from leading scholars from the United States and Europe, including Prof. Dr. David Johnson (Boston College), Prof. Dr. Patrick Becker (University of Erfurt), Prof. Dr. Graham Parks (University of Vienna), Prof. Dr. Raúl Fornet-Betancourt (EIFI, Barcelona), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Iwona Krupecka (University of Gdańsk), Dr. Bianca Boteva-Richter (Vienna Society for Intercultural Philosophy, EIFI), and Prof. Dr. Yvanka B. Raynova (IPS-BAS/Institute for Axiological Research, Vienna).
