CFA: “The Ethics of Sex Verification”

Abstracts are invited for a workshop organised by Miroslav Imbrišević and Ask Vest Christiansen on the topic: “The Ethics of Sex Verification”.

Venue: University of Aarhus/Denmark, in-person event (no online component)

Dates: 3-4th June 2027

In March 2026 the IOC announced its revised policy about eligibility in the female category. Since then there has been a lot of pushback from activists and academics alike (see here and here). The aim of this workshop is to give both sides in the debate a fair hearing on this issue. The workshop is interdisciplinary and so we invite contributions from medicine, biology, sport science, sociology, law and philosophy.

The workshop will take place over two days at the University of Aarhus, Denmark, from 3rd-4th June 2027. Full papers should be suitable for a presentation of roughly 20-30 minutes, followed by a 20 minutes Q&A session. The number of presenters will be capped at 12, but the workshop can host up to 30 delegates.

We have secured some funding from the BPSA and will be able to cover partial travel costs for workshop presenters, with priority given to those who don’t have institutional support. There will be a small registration fee.
